Grandmother’s Bible Was Known to George NYE, C.C. OLIN, and Oran RABER

As you may know, the first real OLIN Family Historian was a man named George Sheldon NYE.  George was a member of the Ezra OLIN Tribe (John>John>John>Ezra OLIN, SR.) and that was his primary focus.  George published his family history in 1892.  It was the first known published book about the history of a branch of our clan.  He was aware of Grandmother’s Bible and quoted from it in his book.  In the book he wrote:

In an old Bible printed in Edinburgh Scotland in 1729 and was owned and taken to Vermont from Rhode Island by the Giles Olin family the following record appears:

John Olin and Susanna Pierce were married in East Greenwich RI on the 8th day of December A.D. 1734 by John Spencer, Justice.

Phoebe Olin, their eldest daughter was born on Sunday at 12 o’clock the 9th day of November A.D. 1735.

Jonathan Olin, their eldest son was born on Friday at 3 o’clock in the morning on the 17th day of June A.D. 1737.

John Olin, their second son was born on Sunday at 9 o’clock in the morning on the first day of July AD 1739 and died the 7th day of April at 4 o clock in the morn, 1740.

John Olin, their third son was born on Thursday at 10 o’clock in the morn on the 17th day of September 1741.

Gideon Olin, their fourth son was born on Saturday at 4 o’clock in the afternoon the 22nd day of October AD 1743.

Giles Olin, their fifth son was born on Saturday at 6 o’clock in the morning on the 23rd day of March 1745.

Barbara Olin, their second daughter was born on Sunday evening the 4th day of September A.D. 1741.

The last was clearly a typo, since Barbara wasn’t born 13 days before her brother, the second son named John.  She was born on September 14, 1748 according to OFS records.

The year after George published, a cousin he had been in communication with, C.C. OLIN, became the second known OLIN Family Historian when he published his branch history, focusing on the John>Henry>Ensign Caleb OLIN Branch.  C.C. made sure to mention Grandmother’s Bible in his book too.  He tended to borrow heavily from George.  A couple generations later, another family historian from the Ezra OLIN Tribe, Oran RABER, published a small branch update, focusing on Ezra’s son Samuel and his descendants.  Oran also included mention of Grandmother’s Bible.  Now that the Bible is back in the possession of the family, the circle is complete.
